Ah, how I'm loving A Lover’s Discourse by Roland Barthes!
It's basically like a little dictionary about love.
I like that each chapter explores a phase that the lover experiences during or after the love relationship.
Thanks to it, I find so many ideas for my quote collections!
Today, I chose the theme of absence, which Barthes illustrates sublimely:
Absence is the figure of privation; simultaneously, I desire and I need. Desire is squashed against need: that is the obsessive phenomenon of all amorous sentiment.
Roland Barthes, A Lover's Discourse: Fragments
I'm reading it slowly, I'm savoring it.
It really manages to capture in a very poetic way the emotions you feel during each stage of the relationship.
It's very relatable, we've all been in those situations at some point in our lives.
Also, I like that he enhances the concept with references and examples from literature.
A pleasurable read.
